The University of Urbino "Carlo Bo" ( Italian Università degli Studi di Urbino "Carlo Bo" , UNIURB ) is a university with headquarters in the Italian city of Urbino and facilities in Pesaro and Fano . It was founded in 1506 at the instigation of Pope Julius II , was a private university until 2006 and has been state-owned ever since. Since 2003 it has been named after Carlo Bo , who was rector of the university from 1947 until his death in 2001. In 1965 the architect Giancarlo De Carlo began a comprehensive renovation project of the university buildings in Urbino. 20,000 students are currently enrolled.
