action

Billionaire Eric Benerall wants to find out what the disappearance of ships and planes in the Bermuda Triangle is all about . Therefore, he puts together a team that is supposed to go there by ship. Among them are the skeptical tabloid journalist Howard Gregory Thomas, the engineer and deep-sea expert Emily Meredith Patterson, the cool scientist Bruce Geller and the parapsychologist Stan Lathem. Benerall made them an offer so financially irresistible that none of them could refuse. Together they should find answers to questions that many people have been asking for a long time. Benerall is also worried about his brother, who disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle, which the billionaire has no peace of mind.

After Emily, Bruce, Howard, and Stan's submarine sank, they discover a secret military base. The four are captured, but then released on a beach. All four hallucinations accumulate in the following periods . They try to do research with the means at their disposal that will take them one step forward. But neither Stan and Howard's illegal investigations nor Emily and Bruce's laboratory tests get them any further. During their investigations, the four discover a crashed airliner, but without discovering a trace of the passengers on board. They can only track down a 6-year-old girl in a compartment of the plane, who looks like an old woman within a few hours, but shows an age-appropriate mental development. Slowly the group begins to doubt their own sanity.

They also meet the Greenpeace activist Meeno Paloma, who leads his very own, personally motivated fight against the demons that have plagued him since his fatal contact with the Bermuda Triangle. Paloma is the only survivor of a ship that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. Ghostly figures, corpses that are disappearing, alternative realities and conspiracy theories abound in this place. On his return home, Paloma found himself in a reality where he no longer recognized his wife, as did his alleged child.

Then, however, they take the findings of the former scientist Karl Sheedy, who has speculated about what could be responsible for the events in the Bermuda Triangle, a step further. It seems more than likely that the incidents so far only herald a much larger calamity. The world's existence seems threatened. Nothing helps, you have to go back to the place from which the disaster will take its course in order to perhaps prevent it after all. Bruce is pretty sure by now that massive magnetic currents are coming out of the area and causing space-time distortions. As further investigations are prohibited by the US Navy, the four other ways have to find an obvious cover-up of the events in the Bermuda Triangle. They find evidence that a Navy experiment may have caused a time rift, which explains the disappearance of ships in the area. When Bruce learns that the Navy is planning to reverse the rift, Bruce is confident that those efforts will be disastrous.

Who will survive to tell the story of another timeline? And in fact Howard Thomas manages to travel back in time, where he desperately tries to stop the events that have occurred. As a result, the Bermuda Triangle is completely eliminated and a timeline in which it no longer exists.

background

Bruce Davison worked with producer Bryan Singer on the comic book version X-Men and later with Dean Devlin on the adventure film The Quest - The Curse of Judas Goblet . Lisa Brenner, who plays Lou Diamond Phillips' wife on the series, has been married to Devlin since 2003. Former star Charles Martin Smithm, who can be seen in a supporting role, appeared in American Graffiti in 1973 and in the 1987 cinema classic The Untouchables .

Dean Devlin said in an interview that there were 800 digital effects in the miniseries, created by the same Academy Award-winning team that created the special effects in the 1996 film Independence Day .

The Bermuda Triangle , also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a sea area in the Atlantic North of the Caribbean lying roughly between South Florida , Puerto Rico and Bermuda . As a result of actual or supposed ship and aircraft disasters, there was a mysterious reputation that ships or planes were disappearing there. An inspiration for authors, which led to sometimes bizarre attempts at explanations and was also reflected in numerous films.

synchronization

The film was edited by the dubbing company Cinephon Filmproduktions GmbH in Berlin; Ulli Kinalzik was responsible for the script and the dialogue .

criticism

TV Spielfilm was of the opinion: "As soon as it becomes clear that there is more to it than just missing ships, the TV film turns into an insanely gripping thriller." Conclusion: "It really gets going after a few miles."

Prisma spoke of a “tense, well-played two-part TV series”. Although "the script by Dean Devlin [...] and Rockne S. O'Bannon [...] is not always logical", it does "not detract from the tension". The "successful visual effects" were highlighted.

On the Horror.com site it was read that the tension never let up, which is a testament to the talent of director Craig R. Baxley. Even the opening sequence is impressive and presents a successful, gripping and chilled scene that is just a prelude to a rapid thrill ride in the style of TV thrillers like Surface and The X-Files .

Also Sci-Fi Movie Page praised the opening sequence, but spoke of a disappointing end. Still, The Triangle offers some really interesting sci-fi ideas along the way that sci-fi fans might find fascinating. It's just a shame that these ideas are never developed further, which is surprising since Bryan Singer and Dean Devlin were involved in projects such as Superman Returns , X-Men and Independence Day .
