Bernhard Stephan

Bernhard Stephan (born January 24, 1943 in Potsdam ) is a German director and screenwriter. His sensitive works on everyday life in the GDR were worth seeing for the German audience as a whole .

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied medicine for two semesters, but then began to work at DEFA . He was assistant director in Frank Vogel's film Julia Lives (1963). From 1963 to 1968 he studied in Moscow at the All Union Institute for Cinematography (WGIK). After some work on television in the GDR , he made his feature film debut with For love still too skinny? (1974) at DEFA.

Participation in the competition of the film festivals of Karlovy Vary, Carthage, Cairo and Berlin (Berlinale).

After reunification he was able to establish himself as a television director with the ZDF film "Tandem" (1991) with a prominent cast.
