Bert Haanstra (born May 31, 1916 in Holten , Overijssel , † October 23, 1997 in Hilversum , Noord-Holland ) was a Dutch director , screenwriter , film producer and cameraman .

Life

Haanstra began his film career in 1947. His short film Spiegel van Holland won the 1951 grand prize at the Cannes International Film Festival . In 1960 Glas won the Oscar for best documentary short film , the film also received the Silver Bear at the Berlinale 1958. He also made feature films , including the comedy film ... and the music played along with it , which was awarded the Golden Palm in 1959 . Haanstra was nominated two more times for an Oscar in the category of best documentary with Twelve Million and Eat and Be Eaten , a collaboration with British behavioral scientist Jane Goodall .

Haanstra was appointed officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau .
