Bertrand Baguette (born February 23, 1986 in Verviers ) is a Belgian racing driver . He became Formula Renault 3.5 champion in 2009 . In 2015 he started in the Super Formula .

Career

Baguette began his motorsport career in karting in 2000 , which he practiced until 2003. He then moved in 2004 to the single-seater racing and started in the Belgian Formula Renault 1.6. In his debut season, in which he started for the team of his compatriot Marc Goossens , he finished third overall with two wins. In 2005 Baguette switched to the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , where he competed for Epsilon Euskadi for two years . After finishing eighth in the first season, he finished fourth overall in 2006. In addition, Baguette also competed in the French Formula Renault in the two years. There he reached the positions eleven and eight.

In 2007, Baguette switched to Formula Renault 3.5 . Starting for KTR , he finished 17th in the overall ranking. The following season, Baguette stayed in Formula Renault 3.5 and switched to Draco Racing . With a win at his home race in Spa-Francorchamps , he finished seventh in the overall standings. In addition, Baguette competed in some Superleague Formula races and in GT racing series. In 2009 Baguette stayed with Draco Racing and contested his third season in Formula Renault 3.5. With three wins, Baguette managed to win the championship title of the series with one race weekend before the end. At the end of the season in Alcañiz , he won both races.

As a reward for winning the championship in Formula Renault 3.5, Baguette was given the opportunity in December 2009 to do Formula 1 test drives for Renault F1 . He also contested the last day of Formula 1 testing by the BMW Sauber team. After not being given a cockpit in Formula 1, Baguette decided to switch to the IndyCar Series . There he started from the third race of the season for Conquest Racing , the team of his compatriot Éric Bachelart . With a tenth place as the best result, he finished 22nd overall at the end of the season. In 2011 Baguette was not given a full season cockpit, and he moved to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing , for which he competed in the Indianapolis 500 . He finished the race in seventh place and was 39th overall at the end of the season. He also took part in two races of the FIA GT1 World Championship for the Marc VDS Racing Team . Together with his teammate Maxime Martin , he finished a race in third place.

In 2012 Baguette switched to endurance racing and competed for OAK Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). He drove both an LMP1 and an LMP2 racing car and competed with Dominik Kraihamer at every race . The two finished the season in 71st place in the world championship. He also drove for OAK Racing in two races in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS). With one win he finished second overall. For GPR Racing he took part in a race in the Blancpain Endurance Series . He also made guest starts in the International GT Open . In 2013 , Baguette stayed with OAK Racing in the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship. He formed a driver trio with Ricardo González and Martin Plowman . The trio was tenth overall with fourth place as the best result. He also took part in two races in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and one race in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

In 2014 Baguette moved to Japan to join Nakajima Racing in the Super GT . He formed a driver team with Daisuke Nakajima , the son of the team owner. The two finished the season in 17th place overall. In 2015 Baguette stayed with Nakajima Racing in the Super GT and together with Nakajima improved to 15th place. In 2015 , he also competed for the team in the Super Formula . A tenth place there was his best result.
