Big J (* 1984 in Linz , also known as J , Brooklinz Finest or Austriaz Most Blunted , actually: Jakob Kattner ) is an Austrian rapper .

Life

In 1995 Big J attended a concert by the group Naughty by Nature , where he came into contact with rap for the first time. He teamed up with friend DJ Stickle in 1998 to make rap music. Appearances, jams, studio productions and collaborations with other artists followed. In 2000, Stickle and J merged with Chakuza under the name “Verbal Systematics”. They played at Splash in 2003 ! -Festival, later received the Austrian Newcomer Award 2003 (category: Best Band) and recorded their first EP Verbales Fadhreuz in Frankfurt am Main.

In 2004 Verbal Systematics were renamed Beatlefield . The track You didn't have it was released on the All City Compilation. Big J later introduced Stickle and Chakuza Bushido, whereupon they produced Public Enemy No. 1 in Linz, moved to Berlin and have been under contract with Bushido's label ersguterjunge ever since . Due to personal and musical differences, Big J left Beatlefield in late 2005. The story ended in a dispute and afterwards Chakuza and DJ Stickle no longer mentioned Big J's involvement in the ersguterjunge deal.

As a solo artist, he released a mixtape called AustriazMoztBlunted in 2006 . The mixtape includes guest appearances by Chakuza and Ward21. In 2006 he was the first artist to win the Austrian Newcomer Award a second time.

He performed at the Rototom Sunsplash and the Danube Island Festival and gave club concerts as support for Redman , Fat Joe , Capleton, Sanchez, Cappadonna , ASD , OC from DITC and beginners in Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland and the Maldives.

In 2007, Game signed Big J as CEO and first artist at The Black Wall Street Europe. Big J was given a lot of freedom there and was in principle allowed to run the sub-label as its own label, without restrictions from the parent company. In November 2007, the mixtape Internationally Known was released, which contained many tracks by Big J. Between 2007 and 2008 he lived temporarily in Zurich , which resulted in a number of club shows in Switzerland. Then he went back to Austria to finish his debut album Brooklinz Finest .

During his month-long stay in New York, Big J is also working on the hip-hop DVD Da Real Hip Hop in 2006 , which contains interviews, performances and sessions by Fat Joe , Heatmakerz, Dilated Peoples, DJ Red Alert , Grandwizzard Theodore, Sean Price , OC ., Includes Jedi Mind Tricks , The Clipse , The Game, and others.

As a harbinger of his album, Big J released a download single in 2009, which was recorded with The Game and is titled Brooklinz Finest . In July 2009 Big J's first studio album, Brooklinz Finest, was released by Sony Music and Hoanzl . There are guest appearances u. a. by The Game and Elephant Man , among others. a. Shuko , Paul Blaze and ANF A short time later, in August 2009, Big J and Black Wall Street parted ways because the record company was preparing to restructure and the European label was closing.

In mid-2011, Big J released his second album, Audio Kush , which also includes vernacular songs. With the single Kraunk he landed at number 4 on the Radio FM4 charts in Austria.

In 2013 Big J released his free EP "Gossip", which includes productions from producers like Brenk Sinatra and Fid Mella. The single "Gossip" was presented with a one-shot video on various video platforms and TV channels.

Private life

Jakob Kattner studied at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design in Linz . After completing his master's degree in cultural studies in 2009 , he received his doctorate in 2016 on graffiti art and street art . His doctoral supervisor was Herbert Lachmayer .
