The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru ( Latin Dioecesis Taravana et Nauruna ) is an in Kiribati and Nauru situated Roman Catholic diocese based in South Tarawa .
history
The diocese of Tarawa and Nauru was on June 28, 1897 by Pope Leo XIII. Established from the cession of territory by the Vicariate Apostolic Micronesia as Vicariate Apostolic Gilbert Islands . The Vicariate Apostolic Gilbert Islands was on June 21, 1966 by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Prophetarum voces raised to the diocese and renamed the Diocese of Tarawa . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Suva as a suffragan . On November 15, 1978, the Diocese of Tarawa was renamed the Diocese of Tarawa, Nauru and Funafuti . The diocese of Tarawa, Nauru and Funafuti gave up parts of its territory on September 10, 1982 to establish the Mission sui juris Funafuti and was renamed the Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru .
