Borgorose is a municipality in the province of Rieti in the Italian region of Lazio with 4374 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 95 kilometers northeast of Rome and 45 kilometers east of Rieti .

geography

Borgorose lies in the upper valley of the Salto , the so-called Cicolano . It is a member of the Comunità Montana Salto Cicolano .

The districts are Cartore, Castelmenardo, Collefegato, Collemaggiore, Colleviati, Collorso, Corvaro, Grotti, Pagliara, Poggiovalle, Ponte Civitella, Santa Anatolia, Santo Stefano, Spedino, Torano and Villerose, Villette.

politics

Michele Pasquale Nicolai ( PdL ) was elected mayor in May 2003 and confirmed in office in April 2008. His right-wing citizens' list made up the majority in the municipal council with 11 out of 16 seats. Mariano Calisse has been mayor since 2013.

Attractions

• The antipope Nicholas V was born on the Rocca di Corvaro . The fortress in the Corvaro district from the 10th century is now in ruins.
• There is still a tower of the Castello di Torano.
