history

1684 Husum theologian and was cantor Laurentius Laurentii to the cathedral school Bremen as director of the cathedral music called. He founded the first cathedral choir with mainly members from the cathedral school. Laurentius worked in Bremen until 1715. In 1732 the choir consisted of nine singers, supplemented by instrumentalists who were also looked after by the cantor. The cathedral choir, which was little supported by the cathedral at the time, is said to have been rather moderate. Only in the time of cathedral cantor Wilhelm Christian Müller from 1784 to 1817 the services are said to have been appealing. In 1817 the modern music teacher Müller gave up his office at the cathedral.

Today's Bremen Cathedral Choir can look back on more than 150 years of history: It was founded in 1856 by Heinrich Kurth (1828–1872), the music teacher at the cathedral school and the secondary school in Bremen . To date there have only been seven directors of the cathedral choir: Heinrich Kurth, Carl Martin Reinthaler (1857–1893), Eduard Nößler (from 1893), Richard Liesche (1930–1957), Hans Heintze (1957–1975), Wolfgang Helbich (1976– 2008) and Tobias Gravenhorst (since 2008).

Present and artistic profile
