Brian Robertson (born February 12, 1956 in Clarkston , East Renfrewshire ) is a Scottish musician and guitarist . He became known through his work at Thin Lizzy and Motörhead .

Robertson originally studied the cello and drums for eight years before taking up the guitar . One of his first bands, Dream Police , later became the Average White Band .

In June 1974, the then 18-year-old auditioned for the vacant position of guitarist for Thin Lizzy. As he was able to convince the band at the rehearsal , he was hired and formed the band's guitar department with lead guitarist Scott Gorham . Robertson had to split up with Thin Lizzy twice and finally left the band in 1978. He was succeeded by the then well-known Gary Moore , who had already played for Thin Lizzy in 1974. In 1983 he came on stage for a one-off concert with his former band.

After working with Thin Lizzy, Robertson founded the British rock band Wild Horses , together with the ex- Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain, who was also dismissed . The group separated after two only moderately successful albums.

In 1982 Robertson received an offer by phone to take over from “Fast” Eddie Clarke, who had left the band, at Motörhead . After five days of rehearsals, he was on stage with the British rockers in Detroit on May 21, 1982 . Robertson recorded the album Another Perfect Day with Motörhead , but left the group again in 1983. In the band around Lemmy Kilmister , he was replaced by Phil Campbell and Würzel .
