Brigitte Öppinger-Walchshofer

Brigitte Öppinger-Walchshofer (born June 4, 1956 in Scheibbs ) is an Austrian ambassador .

Life

Brigitte Öppinger-Walchshofer studied for a master's degree in commercial science at the University of Vienna . She completed training at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna and joined the foreign service in 1983. From 1994 to 1997 she was Head of Sub-Saharan Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1998 to 2000 she was envoy in London (United Kingdom) .

On August 3, 2001, she was appointed Ambassador for Ethiopia in Addis Ababa , where she was accredited from August 9, 2001 to 2006, and from 2005 onwards she was Austria's permanent representative at the African Union  (AU). In 2006 she was in charge of internal auditing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna. From November 2007 to June 30, 2012 she was head of Austrian Development Cooperation  (ADC). From July 2012 to 2017 she was ambassador to Pretoria , where she was also accredited for Angola , Botswana , Lesotho , Madagascar , Mauritius , Mozambique , Namibia , Zimbabwe and Swaziland . She has been the ambassador to India since August 23, 2017. It is also accredited for Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
