Bryan Forbes
Bryan Forbes ( CBE , actually John Theobald Clarke ; born July 22, 1926 in Stratford , London , † May 8, 2013 in Virginia Water , Surrey ) was a British film director , screenwriter and actor .
Life
Forbes began an acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art , but he did not finish. After his military service from 1945 to 1948 he played supporting roles in numerous English films. On the side he started to write scripts. He saw the first film adaptation of one of his scripts in 1955. In 1959, he and his friend Richard Attenborough founded the film production company Beaver Films . He made his directorial debut in 1961 with the film Whistle Down the Wind . Bryan Forbes was married to actress Nanette Newman (* 1934) for the second time since 1955 . Roger Moore was her best man and the marriage resulted in two daughters. In 2004 he was appointed Commander of the British Empire .
