The 1951 Federal Garden Show in Hanover (also: BUGA Hanover 1951 ) was the third exhibition of its kind on horticulture in West Germany after the Second World War and the first Federal Garden Show to be the successor to the Reich Garden Show .

prehistory

The city ​​hall garden (today: city ​​park ), which was destroyed by around 100 bomb craters during the air raids on Hanover , was redesigned in 2½ years of planning and construction for the "exhibition of the entire horticultural sector and state maintenance". Peter Hübotter won the first prize for the garden design . The area that was available was 21  ha .

The garden show

The first Federal Garden Show was opened on April 28, 1951 by Federal President Theodor Heuss and his wife Elly Heuss-Knapp , who also took over the patronage . It lasted 187 days. Around 1.6 million people attended the event, which included the flower parade through Hanover city center .

In addition to the outdoor presentations, exhibits from various groups were also exhibited.
