The Federal Police Sports School Bad Endorf is the sports funding facility of the German Federal Police for winter sports based in Bad Endorf im Chiemgau.

Its aim is to encourage young athletes to practice competitive sport and at the same time to offer them professional prospects. In addition, a contribution to the successful performance of German national teams in international competition is to be made. The counterpart for summer sports is the Kienbaum Federal Police Sports School .

history

In 1958, the first lieutenant in the Federal Border Police , Hanno Bernhard, was commissioned to set up an alpine ski team for participation in German skiing championships. At the same time, a Nordic team was also put together. In the beginning, the athletes came together in the winter months at the BGS site in Deggendorf and completed their winter training in the Arber area.

Cross-country skier Walter Demel was the first member of this team to celebrate international successes by taking part in four Olympic Winter Games . In 1968 the BGS sports team moved to Bad Endorf . Eight years later (1976), as part of the first major structural reform of the former BGS, Hanno Bernhard brought the first official funding concept into being. In addition to normal vocational training and exercise, his intention was to promote targeted sports. In doing so, he laid the foundation for the so-called Bad Endorfer model .

The official and ministerial recognition and elevation to the BGS Sports School South took place on October 1, 1978. In 1980 a sports and swimming pool was built.

After the top funding of the Federal Police Sports School only benefited men for the first 30 years, women were hired for the first time in 1989 as part of the Bad Endorf model .

The offer for sports funding has been continuously expanded and supplemented with sports: in 1991 speed skating and in 1996 short track within the German Speed Skating Association (DESG) were added for funding. Bobsleigh and luge within the bobsleigh and sledge association for Germany has been offered since 1998. This year, the upper limit for the team size was also adjusted from 60 to 75 athletes. This made it necessary to build a new accommodation building with a classroom, which was put into operation in 1999. In 1999 there was also an expansion of top-level sports funding to include snowboarding within the German Ski Association (since January 1, 2003, Snowboard Germany).

In 2001 the main building was completely renovated. A new strength training center was built in 2003.

After the name was changed to BGS-Sportschule Bad Endorf in 1993, a second followed in July 2005 under the current name of the Federal Police Sport School Bad Endorf. At the same time, the sport of skeleton was included in training. In 2008, the outdoor facilities at the training center with artificial turf , beach volleyball , playing field, 75 meter running track and circuit were put into operation.

During their sporting career, they receive vocational training for the middle police force in the federal police.
