Jacqueline Lölling (born February 6, 1995 in Siegen ) is a German skeleton pilot . She became world champion and European champion in her sport, in 2015 she became vice world champion, in 2018 she won the silver medal at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .

Career

Jacqueline Lölling from RSG Hochsauerland has been an employee of the Federal Police (sports promotion group) since 2014 and comes from Brachbach , Altenkirchen district , in the Siegerland . She was born in the Siegen district of Weidenau . She began skeleton in 2007 and made her national debut in the performance area at the German Championships in Winterberg in 2009 , where she finished 14th. She passed her Abitur at the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Winterberg. The international debut followed at the beginning of the 2010/11 season on the track in Cesana Pariol as part of the Skeleton European Cup . Lölling immediately won her first two races in front of Tina Hermann and Olga Korobkina and Laura Malaika . She finished third twice more and was also third in the overall standings behind Tina Hermann and Elizabeth Yarnold .

In the 2011/12 season Lölling started in the Skeleton Intercontinental Cup for the first time . She finished third in the first race and was able to repeat this in the last race of the season, placing her in fifth place overall. In 2011 she surprisingly became German Champion 2012 in Winterberg , and in 2012 she won the gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck . A few days later she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships. In January 2013 she started two European Cup races and finished third and first. In the winter of 2013/14, she returned to the Intercontinental Cup and, after four podium places in the overall standings, finished second behind Tina Hermann. In January 2014 she became Junior World Champion in Winterberg ahead of Elisabeth Vathje and Maria Mazilu . In 2014/15 Lölling also started in the Intercontinental Cup and was second and three times winner in the first four races of the season. At the German Championships in 2015 she won the title for the second time. Then she started in January 2015 in the last three races of the season of the European Cup , all of which she won, making her ninth in the overall standings. In February 2015, Lölling repeated her victory at the Junior World Championships in Altenberg , where she set new track records in both races. As a junior world champion, she qualified for the world championship in Winterberg. In March of that year Lölling surprisingly won the silver medal behind the reigning Olympic champion Elizabeth Yarnold.

For the 2015/16 season Lölling qualified for the World Cup for the first time and finished third in Altenberg and second in Winterberg and Königssee on the podium in their first three races. At the end of 2015 she won silver as defending champion at the German championships behind Tina Hermann. At the 2016 European Championships in St. Moritz , she was fourth and only missed the podium by a hundredth of a second; at the world championship in Igls she was ninth. At the last World Cup race of the winter she came second again in Königssee and also finished second in the overall World Cup behind Tina Hermann.

On January 6, 2017, Lölling achieved her first World Cup victory in Altenberg. Only a week later she won the title of European Champion by finishing second in the World Cup race on her home track in Winterberg.

In the 2016/2017 season she was finally able to win the overall World Cup and won the gold medal at the World Championships at Königssee.

She was able to repeat her victory in the overall World Cup with four wins in eight races in the 2017/18 season. At the 2018 Olympic Games, she won the silver medal behind Elizabeth Yarnold, who repeated her victory in 2014. In June 2018, Lölling received the Silver Laurel Leaf from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
