The Austrian federal government Vranitzky II was a grand coalition between the SPÖ and ÖVP , and was the first such coalition since 1966. After the early National Council election in November 1986 , which was brought about by the SPÖ due to the election of Jörg Haider as the new FPÖ party chairman, dissolved the SPÖ- FPÖ government Vranitzky I from.
Federal President Kurt Waldheim appointed the Vranitzky II government on January 21, 1987. It resigned on October 9, 1990, two days after the regular election of the National Council. Until December 17, 1990, when the Vranitzky III cabinet was appointed, she was entrusted with the continuation of business by the Federal President.
