The Castle Zborov ( Slovak hrad Zborovský even Makovica period) is the ruins of a hilltop castle near the village of Zborov in eastern Slovakia . It dominates the road from Bardejov to the north.
The castle was built in the 13th century and was first mentioned as Makuicha in 1347 . It was owned by different families until it was bought by the Rákóczi in 1601 . During the uprisings against the Habsburgs , the castle was destroyed in 1684 and damaged again in fighting between Austria-Hungary and Russia during the First World War .
