Burny Mattinson
Burnett "Burny" Mattinson (born May 13, 1935 in San Francisco ) is an American animator and screenwriter , who was known for his work for Walt Disney and Walt Disney Studios .
Life
Mattinson graduated from high school in 1953 and was hired as a live draftsman at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank six months later , having previously worked in the Walt Disney Studios' mailroom. Ever since he saw Pinocchio in the cinema when he was five , he wanted to be an animator - v. a. at Disney - work. The first film he worked on was Lady and the Tramp , which came out in 1955. Under Marc Davis , Mattinson was then active as an animator on the film Sleeping Beauty and finally belonged to the animation team under Eric Larson . In the 1960s and 1970s he was an animator on films such as It's Tough to Be a Bird , Mary Poppins , The Aristocats and Robin Hood . After Robin Hood , Mattinson became animator under Ollie Johnston , with whom he worked on the film Winnie the Pooh and Tigger . Frank Thomas finally brought him in for storyboard work for the film Bernard and Bianca - Die Mäusepolizei .
It was not until the 1980s that Mattinson himself was active as a director for Disney and developed his own film ideas and wrote scripts for Disney films. For his directorial debut Mickey's Christmas Tale , which he also produced and whose screenplay he wrote, Mattinson received an Oscar nomination in 1984 for the best animated short film category . Other works by Mattinson included Taran and the Magic Cauldron (screenplay), Basil, the great mouse detective (director, screenplay, producer), Beauty and the Beast (story) and The Lion King (story). Mattinson received the 2008 Disney Legends Award from the Walt Disney Company . In 2013 Mattinson celebrated 60 years with Walt Disney Studios in the Roy E. Disney Animation Building at Walt Disney Studios.
