Bykowo ( Russian Быко́во ) is an urban-type settlement with 10,391 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in Russia in the Moscow Oblast . The settlement, which is mainly known for the former Moscow Bykowo regional airport, is located 34 km southeast of Moscow , between the cities of Lyubertsy and Zhukovsky .
history
The place was created in the early 1860s with the construction of the railway line from Moscow to Ryazan . In 1933, the Bykowo airport was opened near by. In the 1930s Bykowo received the status of a Datschensiedlung (datschny possjolok), in 1962 it became urban-type settlement . In 1975 a new reception building was built for the airport, which was demolished after it was closed at the end of 2010.

Economy and Transport
The economy, which used to be mainly characterized by the airport, with an aircraft repair plant and several hotels, now includes several food factories and a factory for equipment manufacturing.
Local trains from Moscow ( Kazan station ) stop at Bykowo station on the Moscow-Ryazan route .
