Abily during the 2017 European Championships

Camille Anne Françoise Abily (born December 5, 1984 in Rennes ) is a former French football player . The midfielder is under contract with Olympique Lyon and played for the French national team .

Club career

Abily played as a teenager for the clubs Jeanne d'Arc Bruz , FC Bruz and SC Le Rheu . In 2000 she moved to Saint-Brieuc FF , where she made her debut in Division 1 Féminine on September 17, 2000 and scored one goal. After playing one season each at ESOF La Roche and CNFE Clairefontaine , she moved to HSC Montpellier in 2003 . With Montpellier she won the French championship in 2004 and 2005 and the cup in 2006 . In the summer of 2006 she moved to Olympique Lyon, where she was champion in 2007 and 2008 and a cup winner in 2008. In March 2009 she moved to Los Angeles Sol and then to FC Gold Pride in the US professional league Women's Professional Soccer . In October 2010 she returned to Lyon and won the national championship title and the Champions League with this team in 2011 . In 2012 she was again the Champions League winner and also named the most valuable player in the European final. This year, the doublé in the championship and cup competition of France followed, as well as in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, which was her eleventh national championship title. In 2017, she added her fourth victory in the European Cup. Abily's contract with Lyon was extended for another year in May 2017 - until June 2018.

At the beginning of 2015, UEFA named Camille Abily one of five “Women’s Football Ambassadors”, whose aim is to pass on their experience to young players in particular.

Abily made her 80th European appearance in April 2018 - as the first ever player. A month later she was substituted on in the final of the competition against VfL Wolfsburg during extra time and with a goal two minutes later she made the final 4-1. With the end of this season, she ended her successful time as an active.

In the national team

On September 26, 2001, she made her debut in the national team in a game against the Netherlands . A year later she reached the final of the U-19 European Championship with the U-19 selection , which was lost 3-1 to Germany . In the same year she took part in the U-19 World Cup. With the senior national team she took part in the European Championships in 2005 and 2009 . She was also in the French squad for the 2011 World Cup , was used there in all six matches and finished the tournament in fourth place. She was part of the French Olympic squad in 2012 and again played all six Bleues games at this tournament , but four of them only as a substitute. There she came on July 28, 2012 as the hundredth European player to her 100th international match when she came on against North Korea .

At the end of 2012, Abily - the only French woman - was accepted into the ten-player group of candidates for the FIFA Ballon d'Or . Furthermore, coach Bini called her to the French EM squad in 2013 and used her in all four matches in Sweden. Even under Bini's successors Philippe Bergeroo and Olivier Echouafni , Camille Abily is part of the regular formation. So far she has scored 37 goals in 183 international matches. (As of July 30, 2017) With her appearance at the final of the Algarve Cup 2015 , she overtook the record player of the French men's national team, Lilian Thuram . She was also part of the squad for the 2015 World Cup , as well as the French squad for the 2016 Olympic football tournament and the 2017 European championship squad .
