The Celtis-Gymnasium in Schweinfurt was founded in 1632 under the name Gymnasium Gustavianum (after the Swedish king Gustav Adolf ) as a humanistic gymnasium .
In 1833 the school was named Gymnasium Ludovicianum after the new father Ludwig I , and in 1964 it was renamed after the humanist Conrad Celtis , who was born in the nearby village of Wipfeld , but probably attended the school in Würzburg .
history
The Humanist Gymnasium was founded in Schweinfurt in 1632 as the Gustavianum Gymnasium on the instructions of the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf . From 1634 to 1881, the home of the grammar school was the Latin school on Martin-Luther-Platz , built in 1582/83 , a renaissance building that is now called the old grammar school . It has housed the Municipal Museum since 1934.
building
The school building was significantly rebuilt and enlarged in 1984. In 2005 it was enlarged again, and in 2009 an additional wing with classrooms was added.
School branches
Before the eight-year grammar school was introduced in Bavaria, the school took part in the European grammar school trial. Furthermore, the existing training courses were expanded to include the music grammar school in the early 1980s .
Since the 2004/2005 school year, the new eight-year courses in language, humanism and music have been offered to the new pupils in the fifth grade . The first foreign language for all courses is Latin.
