Centennial is a city in Arapahoe County in the US -amerikanischen State Colorado , United States . It belongs to the southern suburbs of Denver and consists largely of row settlements , which are accessed through curved road networks with many dead ends.

The city was officially established in Arapahoe County on February 7, 2001 following a referendum in September 2000 . Before that, the largest settlement in the new municipal area was the dependent census-designated place Southglenn , which was recorded in the 2000 census with 43,520 inhabitants on 25.2 km². The name still lives on in Mall Streets at Southglenn , which opened in 2010 and simulates a traditional shopping street with individual shops and thus contrasts with the large, enclosed halls that form the majority of shopping centers in the USA.

Centennial Airport , formerly Arapahoe County Airport , is one of the busiest airports for commercial air traffic (private planes, smaller planes) in the United States . The airport is outside of Centennial City . The airport was not named after Centennial as it got its new name 30 years before the city was founded.
