history

The hamlet of Chêne is mentioned as Quercus in 1270 . Until the Treaty of Turin in 1754, Chêne-Bourg was part of Chêne (today: Chêne-Bougeries ). Then the left bank went to Savoy , while the right bank remained with the canton of Geneva and the place was thus divided into two. The municipality came together with Thônex, of which it had become part, to France in 1792 and finally to the Canton of Geneva again in 1816. In 1869 Chêne-Bourg became an independent municipality after separating from Thônex.
