history

Chřibská was mentioned as a parish village as early as 1352 . Originally it was an old Slavic settlement in the valley basin, through which a trade route from Bohemia to Lusatia led. The village belonged to the Tolštejn ( Tollenstein ) castle and in 1428 came to the Lords of Wartenberg auf Tetschen . In 1614 it fell to the Kinsky family in Česká Kamenice . In 1570 Kreibitz received city rights.

One of the oldest glassworks in Europe has been producing in Horní Chřibská ( Oberkreibitz ) since the beginning of modern times, until operations were finally closed in 2009. The hut is documented for the year 1514 and belonged to the glassmaker Veit Friedrich , who was also Scholze von Kreibitz. Recent research shows that the hut had already been run at least ten years before by Veit's father or brother Asmon Friedrich, who was granted glassworks privileges in 1504 by Siegmund von Wartenberg (landlord 1464–1511). Her descendants founded numerous other glassworks, including in Silesia , in the Eagle Mountains and in the Glatzer Land . At the beginning of the 18th century, the Kreibitzer Glashütte was taken over by its landlord, who leased it to the Kittel family of glassmakers in 1724 and sold it in 1767. Later, the manufacture of glass harmonica was located in Kreibitz .

From the middle of the 19th century, Kreibitz formed a community in the Warnsdorf judicial district . From 1938 to 1945 Kreibitz belonged to the Warnsdorf district .

Since October 10, 2006 Chřibská is a town again. It is a member of the Tolštejn microregion .
