Charles Holden

Charles Henry Holden (born May 12, 1875 in Bolton , Lancashire , † May 1, 1960 ) was an English architect . He became internationally known for designing a number of stops on the London Underground .

One of his first major works was the Bristol Central Library , with which he won a design competition in 1902. Holden was a member of the Royal War Graves Commission , the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and designed some of their memorials on the battlefields of World War I in Flanders and France .
