Charles "Chas" Mortimer (born April 14, 1949 in Shere , Surrey ) is a retired British motorcycle racer .

Career

Mortimer's father Charles Mortimer Senior was a successful motorcycle racer. After his active phase he founded a racing school for young drivers at Brands Hatch . For Chas Mortimer and his brother Robin, a career in racing was virtually predetermined.

Mortimer gained his first experience in local races from 1967, first on Aermacchi and later on Bultaco . From 1969 to 1979 and in the 1984 season he competed on Yamaha in the motorcycle world championship . From 1969 to 1976 he also competed in the Isle of Man TT , where he won the 125cc class for the first time in 1971. With a total of seven TT victories, Chas Mortimer currently ranks ninth in the best list. In his 107 Grand Prix races he was the only motorcycle racer to achieve victories in the 125, 250, 350, 500 and 750 Grand Prix classes.

After his active career, Chas Mortimer devoted himself to racing school. He later founded a motorcycle spare parts import company and a shipping company specializing in the transport of motorcycles.
