Chiara Civello (born June 15, 1975 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz musician (vocals, piano, also guitar) who has emerged primarily as a singer-songwriter .

Live and act

Civello found himself playing the piano through her grandmother. She first sang in classical choirs before turning to jazz and attending the private St. Louis Music Academy in Rome for four years . At the age of 16 she started to sing professionally. Soon she was involved in recordings with the Mario Raja Big Band; then she brought Roberto Gatto to his Noisemakers ( # 7 ). In 1993 she moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music (graduated in 1998). In 2000 she went to New York, where she got a contract with Verve Music Group through Russ Titelman . Together with Burt Bacharach she wrote the song Trouble . Her first album, Last Quarter Moon , presented her on a worldwide tour; it had sales successes in Italy and Japan. Her third album, 7752 , was immersed in Brazilian music and was created with greats from the local scene such as Ana Carolina . In 2012 she took part in the Sanremo Festival with a song by Diana Tejera , Al posto del mondo , which then became the theme song of her fourth album. She was supported by Eumir Deodato and Nicola Conte on her fifth album, Canzoni . She has also worked with Phil Woods , Paolo Fresu , Stefano Di Battista , Bruno Tommaso , Paolo Damiani , Danilo Rea , Fabrizio Sferra , Jerry Bergonzi , Mick Goodrick , Bob Moses , Cyro Baptista and Mike Stern .

Prizes and awards

Civello received both the Boston Jazz Society Award and the Cleo Laine Award . In 2012, her song "Problemi / Problema", interpreted by Ana Carolin, won the Brazilian Multishow Award .
