Christian Stratmann (born February 18, 1951 in Verl ) is a German principal .

Youth and early professional years

Christian Stratmann is the youngest of nine siblings. After the early death of his father, his mother Margret moved to Essen with her children in 1958. Christian Stratmann attended various schools there and studied social sciences for a few semesters at the University of Duisburg. He initially earned his living as an editorial messenger at the Axel Springer publishing house in Essen and later switched to the Daheim readership, a subsidiary of the Jahreszeiten Verlag Hamburg. There the young people from Essen became aware of his talent for sales and brought him to the company headquarters in Hamburg, where he was later appointed as Head of the New Federal States.

The theater entrepreneur

In 1995 Christian Stratmann returned from Hamburg to the Ruhr area. In the same year he opened the Europahaus in Essen with his brother, cabaret artist Ludger Stratmann , and founded the Essen Wednesday Society.

On January 27, 2004 Christian Stratmann opened the folk theater Mondpalast von Wanne-Eickel in the former municipal hall in Wanne-Eickel with the comedy "Ronaldo & Julia", a soccer game by the playwright Sigi Domke based on Shakespeare . A highlight in theater history was the visit of Federal President Horst Köhler and his wife Eva-Luise to the Mondpalast in October 2008 . On January 27, 2014, the principal celebrated the tenth anniversary of his 500-seat house with another Shakespeare adaptation, the comedy called "Othello, the Swatter of Dates", also by Sigi Domke. Christian Stratmann can be seen on the stage of his theater once a year. In the New Year's Eve fun "Dinner vor Wan (ne)", the Ruhr area version of the classic " Dinner for One ", he always plays "Omma Soffie" in evening dress on December 31 of each year.

In October 2009 Christian Stratmann opened the RevuePalast Ruhr in the listed heating center of the Ewald mine in Herten, which was closed in 2000 . Since then, the historic building has been the venue for the colorful travesty shows of the Essen ensemble Femme Fatale and is also available for guest performances or festive events. In addition, the ARD Sportschau Club has been broadcasting live from the “underground bar” of the Herten show stage after important football matches since 2013.

family

In November 2011 Christian Stratmann married his long-term partner Ryszard Prusak, who died on December 2, 2015. In his free time, Stratmann commutes between his residence in Essen-Rüttenscheid and Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin.

Honors and political engagement

Christian Stratmann has received numerous awards for his commitment as a theater maker, host and supporter of charitable institutions:

  • In 2001 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his services to the Essen Wednesday Society.
  • In 2003 he was awarded the SPD's innovation prize in Berlin.
  • In 2004 he received the employment promotion award of the Solidarity Fund Foundation NRW.
  • Christian Stratmann has had the title of “ Citizen of the Ruhr Area ” since April 2008 , awarded by the “Pro Ruhr Area” association for his outstanding host qualities.
  • In the European elections in June 2009, Christian Stratmann ran for the FDP in the Ruhr area in 21st place on the nationwide list for the European Parliament.
  • In the local elections in 2009, the free democrat ran for the office of Lord Mayor of Essen.
  • In August 2011 Christian Stratmann was presented with the "Blossom Award" as a tolerance prize of the CSD Ruhr as part of the "Christopher Street Day" (CSD). According to the jury, Stratmann is a personality who has made a name for himself in reducing discrimination against same-sex lifestyles.
  • In February 2012 he accepted the "Order of the Duck", which the Carnival Society "Rote Funken" Recklinghausen awards to well-known media personalities.
  • In March 2012, the Essen Marketing Club presented the theater maker with a "badge of honor" and named him "Head of the Year".
  • In May 2013 the theater principal received the demography award “ID55 - getting old differently” for entrepreneurial courage and success in the second half of life.
  • In May 2014, Stratmann accepted the honorary award on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Solidarfonds Foundation NRW.
