Christine Stückelberger

Christine Stückelberger (born May 22, 1947 in Bern ) is a former Swiss dressage rider .

From 1970 to 1979 she was Swiss champion ten times in a row with Merry Boy , Granat and Cameera .

Trained by Georg Wahl , she won numerous medals at the Olympic Games between 1976 and 1988. The highlight of her career was the Olympic victory in singles on garnet at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . In the same year she was voted Sportswoman of the Year in Switzerland. In 1978 she became world champion in Goodwood .

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow , Stückelberger voluntarily renounced participation and thus two almost certain (gold) medals with garnets (the Federal Republic of Germany and the USA - Switzerland's two strongest competitors in dressage team competition - boycotted the games after the invasion the Soviet Union in Afghanistan ). At the replacement event in Goodwood , England , she won the individual gold medal with garnet and the silver medal with the team. In 1987 and 1988 she won the World Cup with Gaugin de Lully . Also with Gaugin, she won the Swiss championship again in 1986 and 1989. In 1998 she again received the Swiss championship title with Aquamarine .

Christine Stückelberger was the first chairwoman of the Xenophon eV association, founded in 2005 - society for the preservation and promotion of classic riding culture - until October 2010 . She justified the resignation of the office by saying that she no longer felt a part of the association. She is also on the board of the "Society of Friends of the Spanish Riding School ".

Until his death in autumn 2013, Stückelberger was Georg Wahl's partner . She has lived on a stud in Kirchberg SG since the 1970s .

Christine Stückelberger is a granddaughter of Eduard von Steiger .
