Nadine Capellmann (born July 9, 1965 in Würselen ) is a German dressage rider .

Life

The four-time world champion (double world champion 2002) already sat in the saddle at the age of 2 and has made a name for herself on various horses in the international dressage scene.

Nadine Capellmann was temporarily married to the former head of Bain Capital in Germany , Ulrich Biffar. During this time she was called Nadine Capellmann-Biffar. Nadine Capellmann grew up in an entrepreneurial household, her father Kurt Capellmann was the owner of the Talbot wagon factory as the successor to his uncle Richard Talbot . In addition to this activity, Kurt Capellmann was also the owner of a riding stable, dressage rider and for many years president of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (which organizes the CHIO Aachen ). His enthusiasm for equestrian sports was also passed on to his daughters, both Nadine Capellmann and her four-year-old sister Gina Capellmann-Lütkemeier are professional dressage riders.

At the end of 2012, Nadine Capellmann adopted a one-year-old girl.

Nadine Capellmann won the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney on the motley fox Farbenfroh v. Freudentancer (1990-2004) won the gold medal with the German team. Two years later at the World Equestrian Games in 2002 she became world champion both individually and with the team. She had previously won the world title with the team in 1998 with Gracioso (* 1987), who was retired in 2003. At the end of 2004, Farbenfroh had to be put to sleep after he broke his thigh neck after an operation that went well in the wake-up box.

As a result of this event, Nadine Capellmann concentrated on building the horse Elvis VA (* 1996), a chestnut gelding by Espri, with whom she had recently won the final of the Nuremberg Castle Cup. Capellmann acquired Elvis VA from Martin Schaudt in 2002. Elvis VA was in sports under Heiner Schiergen from 2002 to 2004 . In 2005 Capellmann and Elvis VA made their first appearances at Grand Prix level. Her partner at the time, Martin Schaudt, took over the training, which was carried out by Klaus Balkenhol up to this point . That year Elvis VA also received the Otto Lörke Prize for the best young horse of 2005. The relationship with Martin Schaudt lasted until October 2005, but he remained her trainer until the summer of 2006.

In the following years she achieved various successes with Elvis VA , becoming team world champion again at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen and again Olympic champion with the team in 2008 .

For winning the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, she received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Köhler.

From summer 2006 the German national dressage trainer Holger Schmezer took over the training of Nadine Capellmann, this connection lasted until 2008. From May to July 2008 she was trained by Jürgen Koschel , and then again by Holger Schmezer. In November 2008 she returned to the coach of her earlier successful years - Klaus Balkenhol.

With a view to her future riding career, Nadine Capellmann acquired the mare Girasol from Martin Schaudt in May 2010 , a Württemberg warmblood born in 2001 by Totilas sire Gribaldi, who had been presented in sport by Schaudt's wife Jasmin up to that point. According to press reports, various international dressage riders such as Andreas Helgstrand and Edward Gal had previously informed themselves about the horse. However, these interested parties were put off by an “astronomical price” that Martin Schaudt was asking. At their first joint appearance, as part of the Medien Cup , Nadine Capellmann and Girasol took second place in the young horse Grand Prix with a result of 74.85%.
