Christoph 7 is the rescue helicopter operated by the Federal Ministry of the Interior at the Kassel Rotkreuz Hospital . The three-person crew flies around 1,300 missions a year. In January 2008, a new Eurocopter EC 135 T2i helicopter was put into service, replacing the old Bo 105 .

history

As Christoph 9 , a Bo 105 C with the registration D-HDFK was put into service in Kassel on December 17, 1974. The numbering took place after the commissioning, so today's Christoph 7 was the ninth rescue helicopter that was put into service at the time. At that time the Bo 105 was painted yellow. It started initially from the courtyard of the Wittich barracks in Kassel. In 1975 the rescue helicopter pulled up onto the roof of the Red Cross Hospital. There the first roof landing pad was built on a building in Hesse. During this time the machine was painted orange. When the Bo 105 was not operational, it was replaced by a Bell UH-1D or Alouette II from the Federal Border Police. The Bell was then stationed in the Wittich barracks.

At the beginning of 2008 the Bo 105 was replaced by a new type EC 135 machine from Eurocopter .

helicopter

A Eurocopter EC 135 T2i has been stationed at the Kassel air rescue location since January 2008. The 6.5 million euro machine (including the medical equipment) has a top speed of 240 km / h and is thus 10 km / h faster than its predecessor; the consumption is 225 liters of kerosene per flight hour. The technical features of the EC 135 include a Hellas obstacle warning system , for example to detect overhead lines at an early stage, and an anti-collision system. The biggest advantage of the new machine is its size: While the emergency doctor could only reach the patient's upper body in the old helicopter, today he can reach his knees. The medical equipment of the rescue helicopter corresponds to an emergency doctor vehicle (NEF). Although the new helicopter is suitable for night flights, Christoph 7 is only used from sunrise to sunset. From March 2011 to March 2012, Christoph 7 was also stationed with the Federal Police Fliegerstaffel in Fuldatal during the day because the roof landing area and the LRZ at the Rotkreuz Hospital were being renovated. The alarm is issued via the "Kassel control station", which is operated by the city and district of Kassel via the professional fire brigade in Kassel.

crew

The crew of the Christoph 7 consists of three members:

The pilot is provided by the Federal Police Fliegerstaffel in Fuldatal. The emergency doctors come from the Red Cross Hospital, the DRK Rettungsdienst Kassel gGmbH provides the emergency paramedics.

Location

Christoph 7 starts his missions from the roof of the Kassel Rotkreuz Hospital. The air rescue center Christoph 7 (LRZ) is set up there. The helicopter is on the roof of the west wing. The upper floor of the west wing is reached with a freight elevator, where rest and common rooms are available for the crew. Overnight Christoph 7 returns to the hangar for the Federal Police Fliegerstaffel in Fuldatal. There is the possibility to safely accommodate the helicopter, as well as the possibility to refuel the helicopter. Since April 2012, there has been a tank system on the landing site at Rotkreuz Hospital, which enables Christoph 7 to be refueled. This avoids having to fly to Fuldatal to refuel between two missions.

operation area

Christoph 7 covers air rescue in northern Hesse , parts of southern Lower Saxony , parts of eastern Westphalia and parts of western Thuringia . More distant destinations, such as Eisenach or Höxter , can be reached after a flight of just under 20 minutes. Christoph 7 flies most missions in the Kassel administrative district .

Bet numbers

Every year Christoph 7 flies around 1,300 missions, most of which are with a rescue helicopter in Hesse. At the beginning of the air rescue in Kassel, most missions were still due to accidents. Today, internal emergencies (e.g. stroke , heart attack ) make up around 70% of operations.

His most spectacular use was Christoph 7 when eschede train disaster in 1998th

Support association

The sponsoring association "Christoph 7" Kassel eV has existed since 2002. It was founded in times of tight budgets and aims to keep the quality of equipment and training at a high level despite financial problems. The association also maintained the website of Christoph 7 . The former Christoph 7, the Bo 105, was restored by the friends' association and made available to the technology museum in Kassel. The future of the Friends' Association was uncertain in 2013 and 2014 after a series of disputes. At the beginning of June 2015, the association was reorganized after a realignment.
