Christopher Wolfgang Georg August Schindler (born April 29, 1990 in Munich ) is a German soccer player . The defender has been part of the English second division club Huddersfield Town , of which he is the captain , since 2016 .

career

Youth and beginnings in professional football

After he started playing soccer at the Munich district club FC Perlach , Schindler moved to Giesing in 1999 for TSV 1860 Munich . In the sixties he went through the youth performance center and moved up to the squad of the second team in the Regionalliga Süd in summer 2009 . He played his first game for the U23 on September 5, 2009 when he was substituted on for the game in Weiden . In his first season in the adult area, he came to 20 missions, he scored one goal. In the summer of 2010 he was appointed to the first team in the 2nd Bundesliga by coach Reiner Maurer . Before the start of the season he was used in several test matches, but initially he only played for the U23 in the regional league.

For the home game against Union Berlin on October 3, 2010, he was appointed to the 18-man squad of the professional team for the first time after Mate Ghwinianidze was injured. He made his professional football debut in that game when he came on as a substitute for Aleksandar Ignjovski in the closing stages . In November 2010, Schindler was invited to a screening course for the German U21s . On November 17, he played his first game in the DFB dress in the U21 test match against the second team from Eintracht Frankfurt . On December 19, Schindler was on the starting line-up for the first time in the game against SC Paderborn .

Established at TSV 1860 Munich

In January 2011 he signed a professional contract with 1860 Munich until the summer of 2012. On March 25, he made his debut for the national team when he was substituted on in stoppage time in the German U21 game against the Netherlands . Four days later he was substituted on for the game against Italy . On March 26, he played his first full-length second division game in Bielefeld and also scored his first goal in this game. During the entire season he played a total of 16 times for the professionals and twelve times for the U23.

In September 2011 he extended his contract with the Munich Lions until 2014. By the winter break of the 2011/12 season, he played 17 central defense times. Even after the winter break, he was a regular on the defense of the sixties . He was not only used in central defense, he was also used in the left full-back position and in the defensive midfield.

In the following season Schindler was part of the squad in all 34 games of the season, but he was only used 18 times, mostly as a substitute. In addition, he played seven times for the second team, which now appeared as a nominal U21 in the new Regionalliga Bayern .

In the 2014/15 season , Schindler was named captain after the second match day, after his predecessor Julian Weigl was transferred to the U21s for disciplinary reasons and moved to Borussia Dortmund in the following season .

Huddersfield Town

In the 2016/17 season , Schindler moved to the EFL Championship at Huddersfield Town . On May 29, 2017, in the play-off final for promotion to the Premier League against Reading FC , Schindler converted the decisive penalty to a 4-3 win on penalties, which brought Huddersfield back to the top division after 45 years.
