The Circle Jerks are a California hardcore band formed in Los Angeles in 1979 . The founding members include the original singer of Black Flag , Keith Morris , and Redd Kross guitarist Greg Hetson .

Band history

Shortly after its formation, the band released their first album Group Sex on Frontier Records in 1980 , which contained 14 songs over a playing time of around 16 minutes. Four more albums followed and several line-up changes (the founding members Roger Rogerson and Lucky Lehrer were replaced in 1983 by the later Danzig drummer Chuck Biscuits and the bassist Earl Liberty, who in turn gave way to Keith Clark and Zander Schloss in 1984), the group separated in 1989, when Greg Hetson stepped up his involvement with Bad Religion . After his release from Megadeth , Chris Poland had briefly played bass in the band, replacing Zander Schloss who had left the band.

In the mid-1990s, the group came together again and, after signing a contract with the major label Mercury Records, released the album Oddities, Abnormalities and Curiosities in 1995 , on which Debbie Gibson can be heard as a background singer for the song I Wanna Destroy You . The Circle Jerks separated again in 1996. In 1997, Epitaph Records reissued several albums.

From 2001 to 2011 the band played together again with the line-up of Morris (vocals), Hetson (guitar), Schloss (bass) and Kevin Fitzgerald (drums), but no studio album has been recorded since Oddities, Abnormalities and Curiosities . In 2011 there was a dispute between Morris and the rest of the band over the quality of new song material, and further activities of the group were put on hold. The band has announced a reunion for 2020.

Aside from Black Flag and the Circle Jerks, Keith Morris also played in a band called Midget Handjob ; Greg Hetson is still active at Bad Religion, where drummer Lucky also played teacher for a short time. The band's first bassist, Roger Rogerson, died of an overdose in 1996 . Chuck Biscuits was active in a number of bands, including the late 70s with DOA and Black Flag and later Samhain , Red Hot Chili Peppers , Danzig , Fear and between 1996 and 2000 Social Distortion . Zander Schloss is also active as an actor, including in 1984 in Repoman and in 1988 in Tapeheads - Crazy on Video ; Keith Clark is now a tax advisor.
