Conrad Herwig

Conrad Herwig (born November 1, 1959 in Fort Sill near Lawton , Oklahoma ) is an American jazz trombonist .

Live and act

Herwig studied at the University of North Texas at Denton , at Goddard College in Plainfield and at Queens College . He began his professional career in the early 1980s in Clark Terry's big band and has appeared with Buddy Rich , Mario Bauzá , Toshiko Akiyoshi and Mel Lewis , among others .

As a sideman, he worked with Joe Henderson ( Porgy and Bess ), Tom Harrell , Joe Lovano in the 1990s and also performed with Eddie Palmieri's La Perfecta II , Paquito D'Rivera's Havana-New York Connection , the Mingus Big Band and Carnegie Hall Jazz Band (under Jon Faddis ).

Two of his albums as a band leader ( The Latin Side of John Coltrane , 1998, and Another Kind of Blue-The Latin Side of Miles Davis , 2005) were nominated for a Grammy .

Herwig is professor of jazz trombone, improvisation, instrumentation and arrangement at Rutgers University and a member of the board of the International Trombone Association .
