Conseslus Kipruto (born December 8, 1994 in Eldoret ) is a Kenyan athlete who specializes in obstacle courses .

Athletic career

Conselus Kipruto gained his first experience in international championships at the World Youth Championships 2011 in Lille , where he won the gold medal over 2000 meters obstacle. In 2012 he won the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with a new championship record of 8: 06.10 min. At the 2013 World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz , he finished fifth in the junior race, and the team secured silver. In the same year he won the obstacle races at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix , the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene and the Bislett Games in Oslo. He then won the silver medal behind his compatriot Ezekiel Kemboi at the World Championships in Moscow with 8: 06.37 minutes , as well as two years later at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing , where he ran 8: 12.38 minutes in the final .

In the 2016 season, Kipruto clearly dominated the world's top obstacle course. He won the Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix in Doha, the Golden Gala in Rome, the British Athletics Birmingham Grand Prix and the Herculis in Monaco. He celebrated the greatest success of his career up to then by winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he lived up to his role as favorite and in the final Olympic record time of 8: 03.28 min, the American Evan Jager (8 : 04.28 min) and left the French Mahiedine Mekhissi (8: 11.52 min) behind. At the 2017 World Championships in London , he won the gold medal in 8: 14.12 min ahead of Soufiane El Bakkali and Evan Jager.

In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time , where he won the gold medal in front of his compatriots Abraham Kibiwot and Amos Kirui in a new championship record of 8: 10.08 min . In the same year he was in the title fights in Asaba Africa champion in the obstacle course. In 2019, Kipruto won the bronze medal in the mixed relay together with Elijah Manangoi , Jarinter Mawia Mwasya and Winfred Nzisa Mbithe at the Cross Country World Championships in Aarhus . In the further course of the season he struggled with a foot injury and was only able to show an annual best of 8: 13.75 minutes before the World Championships in Doha . There he managed an increase of over 12 seconds, and he won the final in 8: 01.35 minutes with only a hundredth of a second ahead of the Ethiopian Lamecha Girma . He previously took part in the Africa Games in Rabat for the first time, but could not finish his run there.

In 2018 Kipruto became the Kenyan champion in the obstacle course. In 2013, as well as in 2016 and 2017, he won the IAAF Diamond Race .
