Constance Wu
Constance Tianming Wu (born March 22, 1982 in Richmond , Virginia ) is an American actress . She is best known for her role as Jessica Huang in the ABC television series Fresh Off the Boat (since 2015) and as Rachel Chu in the romantic comedy Crazy Rich (2018). In 2017 she was on the Time 100 list of the most influential people.
Life
Wu grew up with three sisters in their hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Her parents are Taiwanese immigrants from Taipei City , her father is a biology professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, and her mother is a programmer. She graduated from Douglas S. Freeman High School, where she found acting. During her school days, she attended a course at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute .
Constance Wu graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase's Conservatory of Theater Arts with a bachelor's degree in acting . After college, she studied psycholinguistics .
Constance Wu made her debut in the 2006 TV movie Stephanie Daley . Various supporting roles in television productions followed. In 2010 she finally moved to Los Angeles . She became known to a wider audience in 2012 as Kathy in the web series EastSiders and from 2015 as Jessica Huang in the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat .
In late June 2020, Wu became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
