In 1951 Constantin Film founded the Austrian subsidiary Constantin Film-Holding GmbH . In 1992 the Kirch Group bought 76.67 percent of the shares - the Langhammer Private Foundation acquired additional shares. In 1992 the Constantin Holding founded the joint cinema construction and operating company Cineinvest together with the Austrian market leader in the cinema market at the time, the Viennese Kiba . In 1993, Cineplexx Kinobetriebe GmbH was founded as the operating company for the Cineplexx multiplex cinemas , which Cineinvest has built since then. This also made the Apollo Kino in December 1993 Vienna's second and up to then largest multiplex cinema and also began building up the Cineplexx chain.

In 1999, Kiba was privatized and the shares in Cineinvest, i.e. in the Apollo, Gartenbau and other cinemas in Vienna and in the Cineplexx chain, went to Constantin Holding.

In March 2001 Constantin took over the multiplex cinema in Auhof opened by the Loews Group in 1999 and in December 2002 the cinema in the Vienna Twin Towers from the German Cinestar Group. In 2004 Constantin also took over the multiplex cinema opened in 1999 in the Donauzentrum.

In 2002 the Kirch Group sold its shares to the Langhammer Private Foundation, which has since owned 98.42 percent of the shares. At that time, Constantin Film Holding operated 128 cinemas - including the Cineplexx chain - and programmed a further 73 private cinemas. The market share was estimated at around 37 percent - the market share is also high in film distribution. In 2002 Constantin Film Holding, which also dominates as a film distributor, was accused by competing cinema operators of delivery boycotts, stipulating discriminatory and restrictive conditions as well as offsetting excessive rental rents that are unusual in the industry, "sometimes with the corresponding pressure" such as "threat of delivery boycott, short-term announcement of conditions", and a lawsuit was filed . The Vienna Cartel Court concluded the proceedings in 2005 by imposing a fine of 150,000 euros on Constantin Film. The judgment, which established "systematic continued abuse as part of a targeted corporate strategy" at Constantin Film, was confirmed in the summer of 2006 in the second and last instance. Contrary to the wishes of the plaintiffs "Hueber" (Hollywood Megaplex cinema chain) , "Cinestar" and "City Cinemas", Constantin did not have to surrender his cinemas.

In 2002, Constantin Film-Holding achieved a profit of around EUR 6 million on sales of EUR 73 million. In 2003, profits fell from EUR 64 million to EUR 0.2 million. In 2004 sales were around 80 million euros and profits 3 million euros. Most recently, a turnover of 80 million euros was given for 2007.

With the Cineplexx chain, Constantin Film-Holding has 20 multiplex cinema centers. A further 10 cinemas are operated by a company affiliated with Cineplexx. In addition, Constantin Austria programs around 80 other third-party cinemas.

Constantin Film-Holding's distribution program mainly comprises US and German commercially oriented film productions. Constantin Film-Holding is one of the five major film distributors in Austria , surrounded by the major US major distributors Disney , UPI , Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures .
