Constantino Zaballa

Constantino Zaballa Gutiérrez (born May 15, 1978 in La Hayuela ) is a former Spanish cyclist .

Career

Zaballa became a professional at Kelme-Costa Blanca in 2001 and won a stage of the Tour de l'Avenir and the Tour of Portugal . In 2004 he moved to Saunier Duval-Prodir and won the 19th stage of the Vuelta a España . His most successful season was 2005 when he finished third at Paris-Nice and won the Clásica San Sebastián ProTour race . Among the other major successes of his career were the overall victories of the Euskal Bizikleta 2007 and the Vuelta a Asturias 2010. He contested and finished all three Grand Tours , his best placement was 27th at the 2003 Giro d'Italia . After the end of the 2014 season, he ended his active career.

Zaballa is accused of being involved in the Fuentes doping scandal . In March 2012, he was banned for nine months for testing positive for ephedrine .
