Corrado Herin

Corrado Herin (born August 4, 1966 in Pollein ; † March 31, 2019 in Torgnon ) was an Italian natural track luge . After his toboggan career, Herin also competed very successfully in mountain bike races. He was able to win medals at major events in both disciplines. The passionate pilot died on March 31, 2019 when a small plane crashed in the north Italian Aosta Valley . He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Natural track tobogganing

During his natural track tobogganing career in the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s, Herin was particularly successful in the two-seater with Almir Betemps , but also won medals in the single-seater. Herin and Betemps were world champions in 1986 and 1992 and European champions in doubles in 1993 . There were also three second places at the 1990 World Cup and the 1985 and 1987 European Championships . In the single-seater, Herin won the silver medal at the 1990 World Cup. At Junior European Championships, Herin and Betemps won the silver medal in 1985 and 1987 , and in the single-seater Herin won bronze in 1985. In the World Cup , which has been held since the winter of 1992/1993, the Herin / Betemps double won all five races of the 1993/1994 season (the first at the same time as Manfred Gräber / Günther Steinhauser ) and thus the overall double-seater World Cup. In the European Cup Herin achieved / Betemps 1988-1993 three podiums.

Mountain bike

After Herin had ended his tobogganing career in the early 1990s, he competed in mountain biking until 2002 . He even won the bronze medal in the downhill at the 1994 Mountain Bike World Championships in Vail .
