Curry County is a county in the eastern state of New Mexico in the United States . The county has 48,376 residents. The county seat is Clovis . The county was named after George Curry , a governor of New Mexico in 1907-1910.

The county covers an area of 3,646 square kilometers; 4 square kilometers (0.12 percent) of it is water. The county borders the counties in a clockwise direction: Quay County , Roosevelt County , Bailey County, Texas, Parmer County, Texas, and Deaf Smith County, Texas

The county had a population of 45,044 as of the 2000 census . There were 16,766 households and 11,870 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 72.40% White, 6.86% African American, 1.00% Native American, 1.78% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, and 14.08% other races Groups; 3.75% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 30.38% of the population.
Of the 16,766 households, 38.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 54.00% were married couples living together, 12.80% were single mothers. 29.20% were not families. 25.50% were single households and 9.00% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.15.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 30.10% of residents under the age of 18, 11.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.80% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 18.10% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 97.60 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.30 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 28,917 , and the median income for a family is $ 33,900. Males had a median income of $ 25,086 versus $ 19,523 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,049. 19.00% of the population and 15.50% of families are below the poverty line. 25.10% of these were under 18 years of age and 14.30% were 65 years of age or older.
