Dakota Mayi Johnson (born October 4, 1989 in Austin , Texas ) is an American actress and model . The daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith made her film debut at the age of nine at the side of her mother. She experienced her major international breakthrough with the female lead in the trilogy Fifty Shades of Gray .

life and career

Dakota Johnson is the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith and the granddaughter of actress Tippi Hedren .

Johnson made her screen debut as a nine-year-old star in the 1999 comedy Crazy in Alabama starring alongside her mother. She took her next film role about a decade later in David Fincher's The Social Network . Since then she has worked in both film and television productions. She celebrated her big international breakthrough with the female lead of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptations of the bestselling trilogy Shades of Gray . In 2018 she appeared in Suspiria , Luca Guadagnino's remake of the 1977 horror classic .

She has also been working as a model for several years.

In 2006 Dakota Johnson was named "Miss Golden Globe" at the Golden Globe Awards .
