David Anspaugh

David Anspaugh (born September 24, 1946 in Decatur , Indiana ) is an American director who is best known for emotional sports films such as Freiwurf (original title: Hoosiers ; 1986) and Touchdown (original title: Rudy ; 1993).

Career

Anspaugh graduated from Indiana University . During this time he met Angelo Rizzo , who later wrote the scripts for free throw and touchdown . From 1974 to 1976 he attended the School of Film and Television at the University of Southern California .

From 1980 to 1985 he worked for the Hill Street Police Station television series as an associate producer, producer and director. In 1982 and 1983 he won the Emmy for Best Producer. Occasionally, he also directed episodes from other series such as Miami Vice .

His film debut, Free Throwing Basketball Competitions in Indiana High Schools, received two Academy Award nominations: Dennis Hopper for Best Supporting Actor and Jerry Goldsmith for Best Original Score. The film Touchdown (1993), set in the setting of college football at the University of Notre Dame , is very well known in the USA.

From 1995 to 1998 he was married to Roma Downey from Northern Ireland and has a daughter with her. The marriage failed because of the severe depression he had at the time.
