David Breashears

David Breashears (born December 20, 1955 ) is an American mountaineer and film director . He is known for his successes in climbing Mount Everest . He was the first American to reach the summit for the second time in 1985. He also became known when he conducted the first commercial tour to the summit of Everest for the entrepreneur Dick Bass to help Bass become the first person to complete the " Seven Summits ".

David Breashears is also a world-famous filmmaker, adventurer, and mountaineer whose tours and adventures have taken him to Tibet , China , Nepal , India , Pakistan , South America, and East Africa . He worked on feature films such as “ Seven Years in Tibet ” and “ Cliffhanger ”, as well as on the documentary Red Flag over Tibet . In 1983 he broadcast the first live images from the summit of Everest. He received an Emmy for Advances in Cinematography. In 1996 he was co-director, photographer and co-producer of the IMAX film Everest - Summit Without Mercy . The film expedition was led by the Indian sherpa and mountaineer Jamling Tenzing Norgay , son of the first ever Mount Everest climber Tenzing Norgay . David Breashears published his photos in the book "Everest: Summit Without Mercy". He is the author of several books including an autobiography, High Exposure: An Enduring Passion for Everest and Unforgiving Places .

Breashears undertook eight expeditions to Everest, five of them with summit success. He also climbed the summit of Ama Dablam in the Himalayas and is known as a rock climber on difficult walls in Colorado , which he mastered as a young man.

David Breashear's documentary Storm over Everest was televised on PBS / FRONTLINE on May 13, 2008. During the 2006 filming, Breashears climbed the summit again, for the fifth time.

Breashears has received four Emmy awards for cinematography. Breashears is also the director of Destination Himalaya, a tour operator specializing in adventure travel in Himalayan countries. He is still active as a mountaineer in the Himalayas, holds author readings around the world and works on film projects.

He was married to his touring companion Veronique Choa in the late 1980s. You are now divorced.
