geography

Ruins of the church and monastery west of the village

The municipality is located in the Trnavská pahorkatina hill country (part of the Danube hill country ) below the Little Carpathians , on the Blava river . The center of the village is at an altitude of 186  meters. The city of Trnava is 20 kilometers south.

history

The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in a document from 1258 as Degce and belonged to the estate of the Guttenstein Castle (Slovak hrad Dobrá Voda ) and since the 16th century it developed as a town. Due to its location on the Blava river, the place was divided between two Hungarian counties, with the larger part in Pressburg county and the smaller part in Neutra county . In 1828 there are 158 houses and 1,100 inhabitants. The population lived from agriculture, viticulture, pottery and canning (a relic of the Habanian settlement).
