Dennis Yates Wheatley (born January 8, 1897 in London , † November 10, 1977 ) was a British writer.

Life

Wheatley was a soldier in the First World War from 1914 , which he survived with serious injuries. Like his grandfather and father before him, he first worked as a wine merchant. He wrote his first short stories in the early 1920s . During the Great Depression its wine trade went bankrupt in 1,933th In the same year he wrote his first book, the novel "The Forbidden Territory". Until the beginning of the Second World War he wrote several thrillers .

After he had served in the military in the planning staff between 1941 and 1945, he continued his writing. During the 1960s he sold around a million copies of his novels a year. The books on black magic and satanism in particular sold well. Two books were made into films. He wrote an autobiography in the years before his death . He died on November 10, 1977 of liver disease. After Wheatley's death, sales fell sharply. Wheatley is still unpopular in German-speaking countries. Few of his books have been translated into German.
