content

The film gives an insight into the training at the colonial school. The film begins with an overview of the mountainous landscape on the banks of the Werra around the castle that houses the school. The following is a brief definition of the purpose of school and training. Then the film gives an insight into the practice of the various training subjects: Plants are planted with the spade, work with machines to loosen the earth is practiced. Clay plaster is applied to a new building, grain is mowed with a scythe and tied in bundles with the hands. Sacks of grain are transported on the threshing machine and ground into flour in the mill. Buns are formed and baked. Cows are milked, the milk cans are transported to the dairy by truck. There the processing of milk into cheese and butter is part of the learning program.

Pig and sheep breeding is shown in animal husbandry. In the various workshops you can learn the craft of the blacksmith, operate drills and lathes, and learn the activities of wheelwright, carpenters, tailors and car mechanics. Chemistry experiments are carried out in the laboratory.

Sports are also part of the training, such as rowing, running, gymnastics, athletics, boxing and tennis. The shooting training is a compulsory program. The film ends with a short tour through the library and the museum of the colonial school, which are available to teach the students and give insights into foreign cultures and ways of life. The final scenes show the arrival of cargo ships overseas.
