Paul Karl Lieberenz (born February 13, 1893 in Berlin ; † August 31, 1954 there ) was a German cameraman , author and documentary film producer .

life and work

Lieberenz was initially the technical director in the film studios of Oskar Meßter and the UFA , until in 1923 he was hired by the African explorer Hans Schomburgk as a cameraman for an expedition to Liberia . He made other expedition films with Lutz Heck and with Sven Hedin on his Sino-Swedish expedition . He achieved particular fame in 1932 for taking pictures of large game from South Africa .

In 1934 he was involved in the production of the propaganda film Triumph des Willens . He then founded his own production company for cultural films .

He has published a number of books about his experiences while filming in different countries, including “Adventure with the Film Camera” with illustrations by Helmuth Ellgaard , published by Minerva-Verlag Berlin, 1946.
