German table tennis center

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Table Tennis Center (DTTZ) is a sports boarding school especially for table tennis players . It is a central funding institution of the German Table Tennis Association DTTB . The DTTZ has been located in Düsseldorf since 2006 .

Here young people who show talented approaches for table tennis are encouraged with a minimum age of 12 years. The young people live in the DTTZ and visit local partner schools.

There is also the form of part-time boarding. Here the participants are only present one day per week and complete a training quota. On this day they are released from the school they usually attend.

Idea and use

According to the contract with the parents, it applies to the young people

"To create the prerequisites for a harmonious development of performance training in connection with an orderly process of school, study and vocational training"

- DTS magazine , 1995/11 page 42

The idea goes back to the French Charles Roesch , the national coach at the time. The aim is to bring young people to the top of the world if possible. The concept was supported in the mid-1980s by Hans Wilhelm Gäb , DTTB President at the time, Jochen Leiß and Eva Jeler . The first DTTZ was founded in Duisburg in 1985. In 1987 it moved to Heidelberg, 2006 to Düsseldorf.

The DTTZ is used for training purposes as a

  • Federal base for women and men (also foreign training partners)
  • Full-time boarding school of the German Table Tennis Association DTTB
  • State performance center of the West German table tennis association WTTV
  • Part-time boarding school of the WTTV
  • Central course location of the DTTB and WTTV
  • Individual measures, e.g. for project funding
  • Paralympic Training Base (PTS) since 2013

Osnabrück

The foundation stone for the first TT training center was laid on September 18, 1969 in Osnabrück between Iburger Strasse and Schölerberg. The DTTB President at the time, Dieter Mauritz, stated that the center was “a real concern of the DTTB, which needed a place for its top athletes where they could further improve their skills”.

Duisburg

Another DTTZ was opened on February 4, 1985. It was located on the grounds of the Wedau sports school . The full-time trainer was Martin Ostermann, pedagogical director Bruno Dünchheim (* 1953, † 2010). The training was supported by the occasional presence of trainers Charles Roesch , Eva Jeler , Istvan Korpa and Klaus Schmittinger as well as the Chinese Li Xian-Jue ("Mr. Li"). The training resulted in several later national players, such as Jörg Roßkopf , Steffen Fetzner , Nicole Struse and Cornelia Faltermaier .

In September 1987 the DTTZ moved to Heidelberg.

Heidelberg

The center was opened at the beginning of 1972 under the name Bundesleistungszentrum , in order to promote swimming, volleyball and basketball in addition to table tennis. Under the direction of Ulrich Nimbs, the DTTZ resided in Heidelberg until autumn 2006. They promised better living and training opportunities here than in Duisburg. It also served as an Olympic base . In 2006 the company moved to Düsseldorf.
