Die Drei von der Gasstelle is a German comedy film by Hans Wolff from 1955. It is a remake of the popular musical comedy Die Drei von der Gasstelle from 1930.

action

Peter, Robert and Fritz have been best friends since childhood. They were together as soldiers in World War II , and together they have been trying to gain a foothold again since their captivity . When their car loses a tire en route to a new job, all three are fired before they have worked a minute. Since they rented and furnished their apartment with the expected first monthly income, all furniture is seized. They finally flee with their as yet unseeded car and end up without fuel via a diversion at an abandoned gas station. Soon more cars stop looking for gasoline and the three friends decide to use the proceeds for their car to put the gas station back into operation.

The plan is put into practice and the three develop a principle of rotation: One looks after the “Kleeblatt” gas station, one looks after the shared home “Paradise” and one is allowed to rest. So it happens that all three get to know the young Gaby independently of one another, who as a customer service representative for the petrol manufacturer "UMOL" wants to convince petrol stations to sell UMOL fuel instead of BEROLIN petrol in the future. She is also the daughter of consul Willy Kossmann, the head of the UMOL works. The three men at the gas station don't think much of UMOL, Kossmann's partner Dr. Calmus refused to give them credit for building the gas station. Everyone feels much more for Gaby, who, however, cannot decide on any of the three men.

Dr. Meanwhile, Calmus has made plans to buy the gas station. He learned that a long-planned motorway is about to be built. You should promptly lead past the gas station, which turns into a gold mine. He makes the three men a lucrative offer, but they refuse because they don't like Calmus. Peter only learns about the planned construction of the motorway from a driver.

Meanwhile, Kossmann's lover Irene has found out about Gaby's men and wants to help her choose the right one. She invites all three to a celebration of the UMOL works in Gaby's name. None of the friends know that the others know and love Gaby and so all three are surprised when they meet at the party. When they find out that Gaby is Kossmann's daughter and Peter tells everyone about the plans for the construction of the motorway, the three men believe that Gaby was only acting as a decoy to get UMOL cheaply at the gas station. You turn away from Gaby.

A little later, Dr. Calmus' authorized signatory at the gas station and tells the three men that they should vacate the gas station immediately. Calmus has secretly bought up the men's gas station promissory notes. Since they have not paid any funds to repay their debts for eight days, the contract can be taken over by the debt collector. Irene, who wants to apologize to the men for her clumsily planned coupling action, learns of Calmus' trick and notifies Kossmann. He quits Calmus immediately and travels with Gaby to the gas station, where he announces to the men that UMOL-Werke is giving the three men the loan debts it has bought up as an interest-free loan. Gaby and Peter also come together - at first they still argue, but in the end they reconcile.

production

The film was shot in the Berlin-Tempelhof film studios. The outdoor shots were taken in and around Berlin. It had its world premiere on December 22, 1955 in the Turm-Palast in Frankfurt am Main . It ran on television for the first time on January 29, 1966 on ZDF .

A French version of the film was also made, entitled Le Chemin du Paradis . The main roles in it were played by Georges Guétary , Yves Furet , Jacques Jouanneau and Christine Carrere .

Willy Fritsch , who played the main male role of Willy in Die Drei von der Gasstelle 1930, also portrays a person called Willy in the remake : Here he is the father of the main female character. In a scene at the end of the film in which he is asked by Peter (Adrian Hoven) why he is selflessly helping the gas station with an Umol loan, Fritsch refers in his role to the film from 1930: “I also have Once started very small with a gas station, also with two friends. We also quarreled about a girl 25 years ago; I was the lucky one back then. "

In the film, as in the original, numerous songs are sung, with the text being modernized in places by Bruno Balz :

  • A friend, a good friend - sung by Adrian Hoven, Walter Müller and Walter Giller
  • The Song of the Cuckoo (Dear, good Mr. bailiff) - sung by Adrian Hoven, Walter Müller and Walter Giller
  • I do everything with my left hand - sung by Walter Giller; Rita Paul and the Cornel Trio
  • I am against it - sung by Walter Müller
  • Darling, my heart sends my regards - sung by Adrian Hoven; Rita Paul and the Cornel Trio

criticism

The lexicon of international films said that the film "[t] rotz of the artistic direction of Willi Forst [...] is a pale new edition of the early sound film musical from 1930."

Cinema found the film to be a "rather tired remake of the wonderful Heinz Rühmann classic from 1930".
