The Arkansas prospector is a German-Italian-French co-production western from 1964 . It is based on the novel Die Regulatoren von Arkansas by Friedrich Gerstäcker .

action

In Marble City, an Indian pays gold for his whiskey. Before he can reveal the location, he is killed. A gold rush soon breaks out, bringing a wide variety of characters into the area in wagons, including the Brendel farming family, Father Benson and the player Matt Ellis, who opens a saloon. The two western men Phil Stone and Pat McCormick try to prevent the worst, as bandits have their eyes on the trek and the Cherokee, on whose territory the gold is suspected, want to defend themselves against the occupation of their land. Benson turns out to be a criminal and is killed; Stone and McCormick manage to overwhelm Matt Ellis.

Reviews

The lexicon of international film judged harshly: “In the Bohemian forests filmed German westerns with a lot of riding extra series, which tells the story of a gold digger trek. Boring, uninteresting and full of clichés ”.

Paimann's film lists , on the other hand, stated that the work was "shot according to the well-known adventure novel in a suitable setting [...] in a real setting". The film is "quite stimulating."

Segnalazioni Cinematografiche noted that the film “despite the good equipment and the large number of people, finds no rhythm and only offers a rambling, artificial imitation of American models”.

Remarks

In Italy, assistant director Alberto Cardone is co-director; the distribution title there was Alla conquista dell'Arkansas . The music by Heinz Gietz (published on EP SME 41 661 (stereo) by EMI / Electrola) was replaced with music by Francesco de Masi , with the exception of the main title in the Italian version . The music of the Italian version was released on LP and CD by the Beat Records label (Beat Records CDCR 94) based on the original music tapes (damaged by insufficient storage). Ralf Paulsen interprets the German version of the film song “Much Gold and No Friends” ; In addition to the EP SME 41 661 EMI / Electrola, it was also released separately on a single E 22 774 by EMI / Electrola; in the Italian version you can hear I Cantori Moderni with “Non sparate sul cantante”. The shooting took place in the forests of Bohemia and then in the Barrandov Studios in Prague , which is why - in addition to Olly Schoberová - there are also many Czech actors in smaller roles.
